S.C. Rep. Joe Wilson Contracts Lyme Disease

Recovery Expected as The Second District Congressman Plans District Tour Next Week

S.C. Rep. Joe Wilson has contracted Lyme disease, his office confirmed Thursday.

"Congressman Wilson recently contracted an illness while working in his yard," said an official statement from his Washington office. "Currently, he is taking antibiotics to treat symptoms of Lyme Disease. His condition is not contagious. He is looking forward to a speedy recovery and beginning his annual District tour of the Second Congressional District of South Carolina on Monday."

Lyme disease is a tick-borne disease that can be serious if left untreated, but can be eliminated if spotted early and treated with antibiotics.

Patch will bring you more details of Wilson's condition as they become available. In the meantime, Wilson's office expects him to stick to a full schedule of district tours and public events next week while Congress is in recess.

The tour begins with seven stops in Lexington County on Monday, Aug.22, culminating in a town hall meeting that begins at 6 p.m. at Chapin High School.
