James Kovolski taisteli Borrelioosia vastaan kahden vuoden ajan. Hän kuoli 57-vuotiaana. (Suom.huom. Kollegaltani saaman tiedon mukaan bakteeri aiheutti Jamesille ALS -oireiston. Antibioottihoito antoi hänelle luvatun neljän kuukauden sihaan yli kaksi vuotta elinaikaa. Hoito aloitettiin kuitenkin hänen kohdallaan liian myöhään.)
